Non-Traditional / Adult Learners

Non-Traditional/Adult Learners are students that fall under the following criteria:

  • Previously graduated, or whose high school class graduated, from high school five or more years

  • Earned a high school diploma OR satisfactorily completed the GED

  • If previously attended college, completed fewer than 30 transferable semester hours of college credit

Steps to Apply

  1. Submit an application to KSU online at  This requires completing the application and submitting with a $40 application fee

  2. Submit official high school transcript.  If your school allows you to send them electronically through GACOLLEGE411.ORG, please use that process.  Otherwise, a transcript can be sent from your high school to KSU

  3. Submit official college transcripts from any college previously attended.  If you are enrolled at the time of application, request a transcript showing any work prior to the current term, and also request a final transcript at the end of the term

  4. Follow the status of your application on the application status check.  If you see that you must take the COMPASS Exam, sign up through Owl Express, and an admission decision will be made based on the results on the exam

Applicants eligible for review in this category are exempt from the SAT/ACT and High School Required Courses requirement. However, nontraditional students considered in this category will be required to take the University System of Georgia’s Collegiate Placement Exam or COMPASS examination. Minimum COMPASS requirements are in place to determine eligibility for admission.  Test results may also place the applicant in the Learning Support program for extra non-degree course work in reading, writing and mathematics skills. As an alternative, non-traditional freshmen who have, within the past seven (7) years, posted SAT scores of at least 500 in both Critical Reading and Mathematics, or ACT scores of at least 21 on both English and Mathematics may provide an official score report from the testing service to exempt COMPASS testing.
