Credit by Exam

Recognizing the wealth of knowledge students bring to their college experience, KSU affords students many opportunities to earn and apply credit toward a degree. This includes Advanced Placement (AP), Advanced Standing, also known as Departmental Credit by Exam, College Level Examination Program (CLEP), International Baccalaureate (IB), and Educational Pathways from High School experience.

The graduation residency requirements serves as the limit for the amount credit by exam credit a student may receive.

All examination credits count as credit earned (with a grade of "K") toward graduation in terms of hours earned and course credit earned. Credits earned by exam do not apply toward institutional graduation residency requirements and are not calculated in the adjusted grade point average (AGPA).

  • KSU awards credit for the Advanced Placement Program (AP) tests administered by the College Entrance Examination Board. Students should contact CollegeBoard.com to request electronic submission of official AP scores to KSU. Credit is not awarded based upon high school or college transcripts.

Refer to the table below for Course Equivalents for your Advanced Placement test scores. For AP scores, please call 1-888-225-5427 or visit www.collegeboard.com.

  • Students demonstrating satisfactory evidence of acquired knowledge from prior learning may receive course credit and hours by a departmental examination for advanced standing. Requests for institutional advanced standing examinations should be initiated with the academic department chair responsible for the course in question and must be approved by the Registrar.

  • The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) gives you the opportunity to receive college credit for what you already know by earning qualifying scores on any of 33 examinations. Earn credit for knowledge you’ve acquired through independent study, prior course-work, on-the-job training, professional development, cultural pursuits, or internships. See the Testing Center for a list of CLEP exams that KSU administers accepts.
  • KSU awards credit for the following D.S.S.T. Exams.  These are credit-by-examination tests originated by the United States Department of Defense's Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES) program.
